Shirley Tipping
El Dorado
29th January - April 2012

Shirley Ann Tipping was born in Liverpool, England. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1996 with a BA hons degree, specialising in Fine Art Photography. Shirley is based in Glasgow, Scotland. She has exhibited throughout the UK and internationally.

This is Shirley’s twelfth year of an ongoing photography project based in the American West. Her work encompasses an interest in deserted dwellings, old western movie sets and artefacts from a bygone era. She seeks to explore their raw beauty, the relationship to the surrounding environment, their history and abandonment. Furthermore Shirley’s work questions the meeting point of the celluloid west and the geographical west, and Hollywood’s perpetuation of the mythical west.

Shirley Girdwood and Rosanne Barr, Dec - Feb 2011
Shirley Girdwood works in oil and canvas from Dovehill Studios in Glasgow. She has exhibited extensively in Scotland and abroad, more recently drawing inspiration for her work from the unique landscape, light and mythology of the Outer Hebrides.
Rosanne Barr was born in the village of Gartocharn, overlooking Loch Lomond, and as a child grew to love the rugged coastlines of the far north-west of Scotland. Her paintings do not depict actual scenic place-names, rather she captures the experience of a view, which can evoke a personal response from each viewer.

Joy Bain, 'Big Mouth Gorillas' February - April 2010
We are really pleased that Joy was our first exhibiting artist as her work is of a high standard and has set a precedence for others to follow. Mama Gorilla (below left) has her lipstick on because, as Joy's mum says "You have to have your lipstick on before you have a glass of wine". Her work is full of humour and her unique style is easily recognisable.
